CKWA Kaiwen Parent Committee——Joining hands, we grow together

“School and family should not only work together, but should also propose the same requirements to children, hold the same philosophy, and sail on the same boat.” ——Sucholinski

In traditional idea, parent committee has been regarded as an organization that represents the parent community to communicate with the school. But in fact, the parent committee should more bear the responsibility to spread the community culture. Its mission should be helping parents to better understand what it is going on with the kids in the school, understand the operation mode of the school, and give parents more support on language, culture gap, and recreational activities.

After a series of organization, recruitment and interview, the new term of CKWA parent committee is born.

New CKWA parent committee members

There are 8 standing members in the new parent committee. Each of them performs their own functions and support the operation of the parent committee together. In the future, joining hands with the school leadership team, they will organize and hold many meaningful community activities with CKWA students and parents, enrich the school’s community life, and shape positive community awareness and school culture. They will also improve CKWA’s social influence, and play a key role in bridging the school and the parents in order to bring about more diversified, high-level and more frequent communication.

CHEN Ming

The chairwoman of the parent committee

I am CHEN Ming, the chairwoman of the second term of CKWA Parent Committee. I am very honored to be a participant of the parent committee and get the chance to work with other 7 core members. We are dedicated to serve for thousands of parents of CKWA and make contribution in the shaping of a quality CKWA parent community.

I am the mother of a six-year-old girl, also a new parent at CKWA. I work as an administrator in an enterprising company. In my spare time, I continue my study in two schools while working. I like jogging and traveling when I’ve got extra time. I love my job, and I love to study, but what I love the most is to accompany my families.

My daughter was born in 2013. In the 6 years after her birth, I have been working very hard while using my spare time to do things for her. She had her household registration in Dongcheng District when she was born. Three years later, as we considered that there were a lot of quality secondary schools in Haidian district, we moved her household registration to Haidian District. But in the one year before her primary school study, we finally decided that international education suits her personal development better. Therefore, we started to consult all types of international school and in the end, we chose Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy. The long-term research and consultation is the process for thorough deliberation, and we feel assured for our choice.

Our choice has been made. The next step is to join the parent committee, which is a very positive and meaningful action to the growth of the child in my mind. First of all, CKWA is a young school. On Open Day, the school leader introduced that CKWA strives to be a top school. I asked, “what is the definition of a top school? Is it all kinds of awards and titles?” The school leader’s answer is “reputation”. I really buy in this answer. One simple word has made me feel the sincere attitude and real expectations. This is a quality education environment that I hope my daughter can live and study in the next 12 years. This is also the reason that I would like to accompany and assist CKWA to grow. Secondly, while doing voluntary work, I can also closely understand the school education philosophy and development strategy and strengthen the communication with the school along with thousands of parents to provide quality community resources. Of course, another important reason is that I have always believed that the behavior and the words of the parents will deeply influence the growth of the children. If the kid understands what voluntary service work her mom has done, her value will be unconsciously influenced, and she will learn the meaning to contribute to the society and to help the others.

It is lucky that I get elected to join the parent committee. What is luckier is that I will work together will 7 other outstanding moms. They are professional managers from all walks of life. I am shocked at their positive attitude and their efficiency to handle affairs in a high-quality manner. I believe that to work in a voluntary service organization, ability and passion matters, but what matters the most is what kind of heart the members of the organization have.

Holding a heart to benefit the all and handling affairs with sincerity is the work standard and basic principle of core members of parent committee. The new parent committee was only established two weeks ago but has already left precious memory on every member: the dawn to plan for the community work, the busy yet effective lunch meeting, and various applets that we use while learning from scratch…A short amount of time. Only thank you can express my feelings. I hope that the 8 of us, with the help and support of more excellent and enthusiastic parents, can help CKWA parent community to do more concrete things.

We have discussed the future long-term core objectives of the parent committee is to build up a quality parent community. Through regular or irregular theme activities, lectures, communication sharing meetings, workshops, etc, we can strengthen the communication and mutual trust between the school and the parents, and also facilitate the communications between parents. In the meantime, we also advocate to use the accurate and reasonable channels and manners to develop our work.

Based on inclusiveness and mutual trust, the cohesion between the school and the parents will help to shape the core value of CKWA culture. This may be the “reputation”, and also our expectation. Everyone who have heard of CKWA will be attracted by its unique and charming core culture value. This will be the new starting point for the second CKWA parent committee. We join the hands of all parents, and look forward to a promising future.

GU Fei

Vice chairwoman (primary school)

My name is GU Fei, graduated with a doctorate degree in philosophy from Beijing Normal University. I am an educator and have been working for 15 years. I mainly focus on management, research and development and education-related work in career education industry.

My two children are in G1 and G3. As a new parent at CKWA, in the short two months to contact the school, I have already felt an internationalized, open, kind and positive school culture and atmosphere, especially in Principal Xu’s speeches and the Happiness Class. I deeply agree with her education philosophy. There are several times that I have been moved to tears. In the meantime, my children are growing positively and happily in the school atmosphere. I have seen academic confidence of the school from my kids.

I see eye to eye with CKWA’s teaching objectives that focus on the comprehensive and long-term development of every individual child. Because of the same value, I would like to join the parent committee, and devote my love, experience and love into the school development, and better serve for every family at CKWA.

BI Lili

Vice Chairwoman (Secondary School)

We joined CKWA this year. Before, my kids studied in the public school. So, we have a lot of unknown about international education, and about Kaiwen. After joining CKWA, I have an urgent idea in my heart, that is to understand school closely, and do something for kids in the right path. I really want to thank the school for giving parents such an opportunity to participate in the establishment and service of Kaiwen community.

My application to join the parent committee was partly because of my child. He loves Kaiwen, and I am usually touched by his sense of honor and belongings. This has consolidated my belief in doing something for the school, and progress with him together.

As a parent, I have also experienced a rocky journey in choosing the right school. I have participated all school activities since the start of the school year, and I am deeply touched by the rapid growth of CKWA. I really feel that joining is the right choice. Therefore, I sent my application letter the moment that I received the email from the school about parent committee recruitment. I am very honored to be elected the vice chairwoman of the secondary school. I sincerely accept this mission with gratitude and enthusiasm.

The first meeting of this new parent committee was convened on the 11th of October. The 8 members have met each other for the first time, and we have clarified the mission and work direction of the parent committee. In the process of work development, I have found that this team is very excellent, and every member is so capable and responsible, and happy to devote themselves. I am touched by their passion again and again. I start to have more understanding of the parent committee on the sensibility level, that is, no matter what function and mission the parent committee carry, we must be such a kind and responsible organization. Through our joint effort, we motivate the participation of all parents, and pass on our love to every kid of this community. I am very honored to do such a meaningful thing with my partners. In the meantime, we have also clarified our responsibilities and plans for follow-up work. This can ensure the full play of all member’s advantages, the contribution of the resources of the highest quality, and the implementation of various activities, and the achievement of our mission. Therefore, we have great confidence, and hope that parents of CKWA can trust and support us.

What makes me the happiest person is to see that my kid loves the school’s atmosphere, quickly integrate into the school, study happily and in a balanced way. In the short two months of study at CKWA, his study subjective initiative is stronger. He starts to focus on the inquiry-based approach in study and has got decent scores in various exams. I get compliments from his various subject teachers from time to time. Every time, I can get the feedback that he is working harder every time, and his overall state is very well.

The teachers and students in the school are very nice. They get along very well. My kid has the honor to be elected as the class leader and has actively participated in the student council. At CKWA, he works hard and enjoys this experience. He says that he will speed up to his target just like his English name “Ran”.
