At the invitation of kaiwen Sports Academy, the American IMG Academy visited Beijing kaiwen Academy on October 8th. More than three hundred students and their parents came to school early in the morning to participate in this unique sports exchange event.
Three heavyweight IMG academy guests were specially invited to attend: Matt Schneider, head coach of the IMG Academy’s Golf Academy, Pat Dougherty, head coach of the IMG Academy’s Tennis Academy, and Marlboro Ma, the IMG Academy’s head of China recruitment.
The three guests shared internationally-leading sports teaching models with students and parents, and focused on questions regarding the positive role of sports in applications to Ivy League schools as well as applying for athletic scholarships at elite schools.
An apprentice of David Leadbetter, Matt Schneider cultivates and trains the most excellent teenage players around the world, and has earned a number of accreditations and prizes. He emphasized that international elite schools’ talent consideration criteria are more comprehensive than before, and said that these schools tend to select students who are outstanding in both physical and psychological qualities.
Subsequently, two IMG Academy coaches personally taught an experience class, and Kaiwen students cheerfully participated.
This special event kicks off the cooperation between both IMG and Kaiwen. Kaiwen will start working with the IMG Academy during the winter vacation, sending select potential students to the United States to participate in IMG winter training camp and receive the IMG’s most authoritative and systematic training.

November brings winter to Beijing with cold winds, but Kaiwen’s baseball field is full of vitality thanks to the warmth provided by the arrival of two former MLB stars as well as students’ passion for the sport.
On November 8, former MLB stars Billy Brewer and Todd Haney visited Kaiwen, directly interacting with students who like baseball and allowing us to experience the charm and fun of baseball with them!
Billy Brewer is a former MLB middle relief pitcher, batting and throwing left-handed. On April 8, 1993, Billy Brewer made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals. He spent a total of 7 seasons in the MLB, playing for the Kansas City Royals, the New York Yankees, the Oakland Athletics, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Todd Haney is a former MLB second baseman. He played for the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals), the Chicago Cubs, and the New York Mets. He played a total of 5 full seasons in the MLB, among which his most outstanding performance was the 1994-1996 seasons with the Chicago Cubs.
Knowing that their idols would visit Kaiwen, excited students arrived on the baseball field early. The moment Billy Brewer and Todd Haney took the field, the atmosphere was electrified with cheers and applause.
Guided by the two stars, students participated in a 60-minute MLB professional training course.
During practice, Billy and Todd personally demonstrated and guided students’ movements; they also taught and shared their experience and skills from actual competitions.
Encouraged by Billy and Todd, students practiced hard and tried to perfect their every pitch and hit.
The two stars were deeply impressed by the students’ love for baseball. Billy Brewer said, “The children’s enthusiasm for the sport is contagious. They remind me of myself as a child. I loved the sport and dreamed of joining the MLB one day. These young players are very lucky to be able to receive professional training at such a young age. I believe that they will achieve great success in the future.”
At the end of the training, the stars divided the students into two groups for a scrimmage. During the match, the students frequently played well, and the on-field excitement reached a peak on several occasions. The two MLB players also cheered for the students enthusiastically!
After the training, the students high-fived and hugged the two stars, and arranged to see one another again. This exchange will definitely be one of the students’ unforgettable memories of campus life, but it’s only the wonderful beginning of their baseball dreams!
Superstars or idols can seem far away, but they really exist in our life, like a goal guiding us forward. Having their company or guidance in the pursuit of our dreams is a valuable asset in life.
From the initial establishment of strategic cooperation to site design and sending professional coaches, our cooperation with the MLB has become more and more comprehensive and in-depth. Having the two former MLB stars come to directly interact with students and share their experience is like a beautiful home run, scoring another point for our cooperation.

On January 21, the final battle of the 2017 Beijing Youth Ice Hockey League was held
in the Hong’ao Ice Sports Development Center. On behalf of Kaiwen,
the Demoiselle Crane Dream Team finally won third prize after several rounds of competition.
At that point, little demoiselle cranes’ first competition season was successfully concluded.
Since the establishment of the Kaiwen Ice Hockey Club in August 2017, coaches and young players have overcome
all sorts of difficulties. By virtue of the demoiselle crane spirit, they are united as one and constantly challenge the
limit to fly over the peak. Led by chief coach Michael Kusy, this group of little demoiselle cranes smoothed away
numerous difficulties in their first battle and successively conquered the Power Kids, Beijing Little Wolf, and other
formidable ice hockey teams in Beijing. In group games, they stood out on a four-game winning streak.
The coaching team led the little demoiselle cranes through laughter and tears.
They treated each win or loss as a valuable experience in their growth.
The little demoiselle cranes were always trying to improve themselves.
Under the careful guidance of the coaches, they followed the North American ice hockey training system, learned
teamwork and the spirit of ice hockey, enjoyed the charm and culture of ice hockey, and continued to move forward.
For such a short competition season, the coaches have witnessed the growth of these little demoiselle cranes.
It is worth mentioning that the goalkeeper of the Demoiselle Crane Dream Team is a lovely girl,
who is a third gradestudent at Beijing Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy.
Throughout the entire competition season, this girl has been as excellent as any boy.
Who says that ice hockey is a boy’s game?
The ice hockey course in Kaiwen integrates the Hockey Canada course system with the USA Hockey course system,
and modifies the Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) model for the characteristics of young Chinese players.
The ice hockey team emphasizes team spirit and focuses on shaping personality.
Through ice hockey games, Kaiwen hopes to cultivate the players’ diligence, teamwork, tenacity, self-confidence,
and leadership, and also teach them how to face all kinds of challenges while they are growing up, helping them
become not only a superior ice hockey player, but also a better person.

Dr. Bob Stephenson, formerly a lower master at Eton College, joined Kaiwen Education Group in August 2017. Dr. Stephenson is a highly respectable educator with excellent leadership skills and a vast experience in school management. We are very excited to welcome Dr. Stephenson onto the CKWA management team, and we are sure he will bring new motivational energy with a dedicated approach.
Dr. Stephenson got his B.Sc. in Biology 1st Class Honors and Ph.D. from University of Sussex, Falmer, Brighton. He first joined Eton in 1983, and throughout the following 34 years, he has acted as Head of Biology, Head of Science, House Master, Senior Tutor and Lower Master. He has gained the love, respect and appreciation from all the students, colleagues and parents for his dedicated work and professional approach through his Eton career.
Throughout his career he has upheld the principles of “individualized education” and fairness towards each individual student, guiding them constructively and paying full attention to their mental well-being which led to him setting up a psychological support center at Eton, one of Dr. Stephenson’s great career achievements. He created Eton schools policy from scratch, bringing a unified approach to the school structure, as well as devising a unique cognitive admissions test complimented with a new admission system also introduced by Dr. Stephenson.
The president of Eton, Simon Henderson was quoted in the farewell letter that Dr. Stephenson was “a truly outstanding Lower Master”, and former Eton president Eric Anderson was quoted: “For a headmaster, he was a real asset, innovative within his department and well-liked by the pupils who were inspired by his dedication to the subject and the desire to improve them in the field.”
Looking back at his 34 years at Eton, Dr. Stephenson was quoted saying:” Why would I want to spend the rest of my career acting as a cushion?” An energizing approach by a man with such a thriving experience in education, as we should be able to discuss the things we do not understand, rather than simply go through the motions.
Kaiwen Education welcomes Dr. Stephenson with 34 years of experience, more so his love and dedication for his students and their academic improvement. “As I move from Eton to a new and exciting field in China, my philosophy will remain the same: If we back the youth, we simply cannot fail.”
Please welcome Dr. Bob Stephenson.

Kaiwen Education Group and the Manchester City Football Club signed a ten-year cooperation agreement
on December 18th. After the signing, Kaiwen Education Group will introduce the Manchester teenager training
system, Manchester teenager training camp coaches and overseas training camps to Kaiwen students.
The Kaiwen & Manchester City Football School, which was built by both parties,
is scheduled to open officially in September 2018.
Xu Guangyu, Kaiwen Education Group chairman, expressed that Manchester’s high sports standards as well as its unique culture and sports spirit, is consistent with Kaiwen’s Education educational
philosophy. Kaiwen Education wants to foster international talent with health fitness and a positive mental attitude through physical education in order to practice Kaiwen’s idea of “Healthy Mind,
Healthy Body”.
The Kaiwen & Manchester City Football School is the first international school
combining sports and education, characterized by Manchester Football and supported by local famous schools in
China. The initial plan is to enroll one class each of first and second grade in primary school,
with no more than 25students in each class.
The school has prepared a customized football training plan that will be taught by coaches of

The 6th Beijing International School Fencing Tournament was held in Beijing on January 28, 2018. Nearly 170 young fencers from 28 international schools in nine countries crossed swords at the tournament. It was the first time that the Beijing Kaiwen Academy (KWA) fencing team had attended the tournament. After fierce fighting, the team won gold medals for U8 Men’ s Sabre and U8 Women’s Foil, a silver medal for U10 Men’s Foil, and third place in group points.
The KWA fencing team was established in October 2017. With their scientific and effective training methods, professional coaches Mark and Liu Kris have quickly improved the team’s combat effectiveness in just three months. At the tournament, young KWA fencers demonstrated a strong psychological quality at critical points of the competition.
Xu Wenxin came forth for the first battle with a veteran opponent. Calm and composed, she captured a gold medal for U8 Women’s Foil after winning three innings in a row, creating a good start for the KWA team.
Dai Yinuo, a first grader, was the youngest member on the KWA team, but he acted like a “newborn calf that is not afraid of tigers.” He made quick tactical adjustments when he was lagging behind and eventually won a gold medal for Men’s Sabre by defeating his opponent 10: 9 with a nice defense counterattack.
Chang Yunge, the leader of the KWA fencing team, also turned the tables. When lagging behind with a score at 0:4 (out of five) in the first group game, Chang Yunge proceeded steadily and surely at a critical moment to equalize the score to 4:4. On match point, Chang Yunge struck back with excellent mental control and overcame the fierce competition. Outside the field, coach Mark, who was calm throughout, was thrilled by the performance.
The KWA fencing team has developed a good team spirit within three months. For the honor of the team, ace fencer Zhang Zhiye attended the tournament in spite of illness and won a silver medal, demonstrating the perseverance of an athlete.
The tournament has produced many highlights. Su Yufan, in spite of a disadvantaged position, took the initiative and attacked bravely. Tian Ziqi played for safety and perfectly implemented the coach’s tactics when facing a strong opponent. KWA fencers have shown the courage of drawing swords in front of formidable opponents and fighting fearlessly.
In addition to training in basic skills, the KWA fencing team has focused on concept guidance and cultivation of character. The team has been concerned about team spirit, perseverance, self-control, and self-confidence. With each strike like a thunderbolt, fencing is actually an art of war, in which psychological qualities and tactics are especially important. A fencer must attack like lightning, defend like an unshakable mountain, and be unpredictable like a cloudy sky. As an example of using this art of war in actual combat, young courageous KWA swordsmen knew how to advance or retreat and often came up with ingenious moves to defeat opponents.
The tournament has given young KWA fencers valuable real-world experience. Now the team is preparing for the next competition. Let’s all wait for their next battle when the KWA fencing team will draw swords and fight again.

The educational robotic program originated in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), appearing as an undergraduate course and competition at the first, then being widely recognized and welcomed by MIT students. Due to its obvious educational characteristics, it is highly compatible with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) promoted by the United States. Since 1997, BotBall has been introduced into the junior high school and high school education, and its content is designed closely related to training scientific literacy and the spirit of inquiry.
In March 2018, the CKWA Hugo Robotic Club was established. The members include programming master from the 6th grade, construction master from 8th grade, and project management manager from the 9th grade. Only half a year later, our middle school students stood on the same stage with high school robotics fans from all over the world. They experienced from conflict to collaboration, from blaming each other to understanding each other, and finally appearing in the China Open in Dalian and the US Finals held in the Palm Desert of California. According to the accumulated integrals of the thesis, the seeding rounds, the team seeding rounds and elimination tournament, our team stood out from the 62 teams selected from all over the world and won the first prize, and won the only annual special award for best badge design!
Special Award of Best Badge Design
Just finished the final exam in June, the club’s students returned to the campus to prepare for the international competition. The test process is arduous and boring, and every time the robot walks, it needs to re-place all the props. The students in charge of the auxiliary work tirelessly re-placed the props. Many students’ knees hurt so much that they could not sleep, but they never felt bitter and hard, instead, they were happy to do the job rather than go home. The operating and programming construction in the competition are very important, but without the sincere cooperation of the entire team, the hard work of the supporting players , the success is impossible.
After arriving at Dan Cape in the United States, the students started intense preparation. They went to the local hardware store and purchased the materials for the robot stage. After dinner, they worked until midnight cramming their stomach just with sandwiches. In the past, it took two weeks to build a robot stage, however, the team completed it just within three hours and it was totally up to standard!
In the next few days, an accident happened. The robot was in a very bad state due to the rushing of the journey. The students spent nearly 14 hours to restore the robot’s indicators every day, from construction to programming and debugging, everyone reached physical limit. More terrible things continually occurred. In the robot test, the big robot accidentally broke the arm, and the operator dropped the small robot from height, the chassis was damaged and could not be repaired. The loss was heavy. At this time, the teachers and students reached the bottom line of their psychological endurance.
Under such circumstances, the relationship between the players became subtle. Whoever did more or less work immediately caused various contradictions, and inevitable quarrels. After a meeting, everyone alleviated the pressure and become emotional stable. They made self-examination, apologized to each other, and adjusted the subsequent training program. Before leaving the beautiful station, two machines were finally adjusted to the best condition, the students set off for the Palm Desert!
41 degrees Celsius, this is the Palm Springs in summer – the winter resort of the richest Americans. While in summer, it is desolated. It takes three hours to drive from Dan Cape to be here. After you open the door, it seems that you are on the land of hell.
The competition platform is ready.
Seeding round: Three rounds of points are counted in turn. After the previous day’s debugging, the students found that the stage is different between U.S and China: the oversize frame, the inconsistent position of the cable car, and the speed bump effect on the machine movement. The students had to adapted the machine to the US stage against such issues. The machine eventually performed at least 50% of its level and out team ranked 21 of more than 60 teams in the point race. The students were satisfied with such results, after all, our opponents were all high school students, and this was their first time to participate in this competition. There are a lot of room for improvement in the future. Moreover, the students still had many opportunities in the subsequent competition.
The placement of robot was completed and ready for the optical signal .
Demoiselle, fly bravely!
The team seeding rounds: new system implemented in this year, the two teams starts competition on the stage to accumulate points, total five rounds. The two robots are operated simultaneously and easily affected by the other party. Many teams with thousands of points quickly dropped to few hundred points. Our robots were stable and maintain thousand points or so, ranked at 20.
Dual elimination tournament: Two teams compete at the same stage, the team losing two rounds loses the game. In the first day of the tournament, we made a big punch against the Polish high school students without fear. After two-minute game ended, we won at 2000-50 disparity points and successfully entered dual elimination tournament of the second day and reached the group’s top 16.
At 5:00 pm, the first day of the game ended, the students and teachers continued to debug the machine in the hotel lobby, and studied the match schedule and formulated the strategy until 11:00pm. For the honor of Kaiwen, we must fight to the end.
Even could not keep the eyes open, we still insisted.
The movement of the big robot suffered serious disorder in the morning, and a small probability accident of a deadly chassis chaos occurred. The small robot operator failed to adjust the machine to the best, and got lower score, which caused us lose one round in elimination tournament. The children watching the game cried. The players immediately adjusted their conditions to face the following round of the resurrection.
The magic thing is that in the resurrection, we once again met our old rival Poland team, as long as we play normally, we can win. The operators exerted their efforts, and crushed the opponent by 2000 points. We respected our opponents very much, instead of shouting for celebration, we shook hands and comforted them. The players from both teams became good friends!
CKWA Hugo Robotic Club entered into quarterfinal. Won again!
Only two Chinese teams entered into the finals in the afternoon. According to our analysis of the match schedule last night, we might meet the Winchester High School team in the finals. This team was very powerful, their robot was stable, but their tactics lacked changes, we still got a chance to win, and the second place was also acceptable. We met them in the first round of the quarterfinals. We thought that they would continue yesterday’s tactics, out of expectation, the opponents specially developed a strategy against us. Our robot arm was broken by out opponent, and we ended at quarterfinals. However, after the game, we backed to China, we received a good news from the United States. According to the total integrals of thesis, seeding rounds, team seeing rounds and elimination tournament, CKWA Hugo Robotic Club won the first prize of BotBall International Robot Competition!
Photos with Poland players, opponents and friends.
We remember most is that at the end of the first day of the elimination tournament, we won the applause, congratulations and respect from our opponent. Two Polish players came over to shake hands with me and congratulated us on achieving such good results. Before that game, I always care about winning or losing, but now I understand the most important thing is to win the recognition and congratulations of the opponent. After the awards ceremony, I took photos with the Polish players, because they are the greatest opponents I have ever met. I learned a lot and grew up a lot in the international Botball competition, which may be the maximum meaning of Botball International!
When playing in national games, I deemed all the competitors as enemies and not friends. However, when playing international games, the personal quality of competitors from various countries impressed me deeply. Regardless of lose or win of any team, they would be very friendly to express greetings, encouragement or blessings. One team from Poland impressed me most, we played against it three times and eliminated it through changeable tactical, however, neither from their words nor deeds, we felt any hostility. They shook hands with us, hugged us and wished us a better results in the following round. When the game was over, we took photos with the players from the team, I am very pleased to be friends with them because they are really great!
It is the first year to participate in the botball, our team is not mature enough, besides skills, we have to learn quickly respond on the spot, know ourselves as well as the others, in order to win every match. It is really important to timely adjust the tactics during competition.
Thanks to all the teachers and parents who supported us quietly, we will get more outstanding!
Participating in competition in United States is a great opportunity to experience American life in-depth. From Stanford University to Universal Studios, from Fisherman’s Wharf to “Back to the Future” shooting place, from Hollywood to San Diego, we left our footprints everywhere.

In July, accompanied by 4 weeks’ scorching weather, with 117 training manuals, 70 ice hockey classes, 40 swimming classes, 35 baseball classes, 24 synchronized swimming training classes, 20 different games, the students aged 4 to 14 years old, experienced countless fall down and quickly stand up in the Ice Hockey Camp, Swimming Camp And Synchronized Swimming Camp organized by Kaiwen Sports Academy, whereby, the children practiced their skills, made friends, improved their self-confidence, trained their will, and spent a meaningful summer holiday.
Nearly 150 hockey boys, racing on the ice rink, learned to slide, pass the ball, shoot and various tactics. Five Canadian head coaches brought the original North American ice hockey training and ice hockey culture to the children. The cool goalkeeper training added a bright color to this summer. The students called the fully armed goalkeeper coach “Transformers.”
In the sweltering day, is there anything more comfortable than staying on the ice rink? If so, it might be soaking in the pool! These little beans swam just like a fish. Many of them are just beginners, their small body contains high energy!
In Kaiwen’s synchronized swimming training camp, 16 girls experienced a week of accommodation life, listening to the beat, walking over ripples and dancing in the water just like a fairy. Synchronized swimming is known as the water ballet, each piece of its music conveys a different theme that makes you feel relaxed and happy.
The baseball class is a supplementary ground training course for hockey summer camp. Running in the sun, practicing the basic skills of baseball over and over again, enjoying the teamwork and learning tactics between athletics and wisdom. The magic of baseball brainstorm made children crazy for it.
The summer camp is both a training and an independent exercise.
Here the children learned to put on the complex equipment on their own.
The older ones volunteered to take care of younger ones,
sharing toys and snacks, joy, unity and respect could be found everywhere.
The coach are both teachers and friends of the children, participating in every moment of the kids’ camp life:
training together, eating together and exercising together.
Coaches are not only the strict teachers on the court, but also the learning partners of the children,
they explore sports culture and history together.
The training logs, sports knowledge learning and quizzes are essential content every day,
the children learned to summarize and reflect, as well as the concentration and respect in the training class .
Each training manual condensed the harvest of the little athletes for a week.
In this July, the coaches and teachers witnessed the kids becoming more resilient, independent, knowing listening and to be grateful, self-disciplined, strong, and growing in sports. Kaiwen Sports Summer Camp will leave a lot of color in the children’s memory. Kaiwen Sports Chaoyang Campus began to recruit for new semester!
