What a Wonderful Home Run! Former MLB Stars Visit Kaiwen!

November brings winter to Beijing with cold winds, but Kaiwen’s baseball field is full of vitality  thanks to the warmth provided by the arrival of two former MLB stars as well as students’ passion for the sport.

On November 8, former MLB stars Billy Brewer and Todd Haney visited Kaiwen, directly interacting with students who like baseball and allowing us to experience the charm and fun of baseball with them!

Billy Brewer is a former MLB middle relief pitcher, batting and throwing left-handed. On April 8, 1993, Billy Brewer made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals. He spent a total of 7 seasons in the MLB, playing for the Kansas City Royals, the New York Yankees, the Oakland Athletics, and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Todd Haney is a former MLB second baseman. He played for the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals), the Chicago Cubs, and the New York Mets. He played a total of 5 full seasons in the MLB,  among which his most outstanding performance was the 1994-1996 seasons with the Chicago Cubs.

Knowing that their idols would visit Kaiwen, excited students arrived on the baseball field early. The moment Billy Brewer and Todd Haney took the field, the atmosphere was electrified with cheers and applause.

Guided by the two stars, students participated in a 60-minute MLB professional training course.

During practice, Billy and Todd personally demonstrated and guided students’ movements; they also taught and shared their experience and skills from actual competitions.

Encouraged by Billy and Todd, students practiced hard and tried to perfect their every pitch and hit.

The two stars were deeply impressed by the students’ love for baseball. Billy Brewer said, “The children’s enthusiasm for the sport is contagious. They remind me of myself as a child. I loved the sport and dreamed of joining the MLB one day. These young players are very lucky to be able to receive professional training at such a young age. I believe that they will achieve great success in the future.”

At the end of the training, the stars divided the students into two groups for a scrimmage. During the match, the students frequently played well, and the on-field excitement reached a peak on several occasions. The two MLB players also cheered for the students enthusiastically!

After the training, the students high-fived and hugged the two stars, and arranged to see one another again. This exchange will definitely be one of the students’ unforgettable memories of campus life, but it’s only the wonderful beginning of their baseball dreams!

Superstars or idols can seem far away, but they really exist in our life, like a goal guiding us forward. Having their company or guidance in the pursuit of our dreams is a valuable asset in life.

From the initial establishment of strategic cooperation to site design and sending professional coaches,  our cooperation with the MLB has become more and more comprehensive and in-depth. Having the two former MLB stars come to directly interact with students and share their experience is like a beautiful home run, scoring another point for our cooperation.
