Principal’s Weekly Message 2020-5-15

Friday May 15th 2020

Dear parents,

The past week has been an exciting week! On Monday, we welcomed the return of the first batch of students, G9 and G12. This Wednesday, Beijing municipal government announced that G6, G7, G8, G10, G11 students can return to school on June 1st, and G4 and G5 students can return to school on June 8th! The school is now waiting for messages from Chaoyang Education Bureau on the work deployment of resuming school. We are very confident about our preparation work of school resuming!

This year, principals and teachers of the scholarship committee have experienced many touching and surprising moments during the application and interview procedure of Kaiwen Yinghe Scholarship awards. From preparing materials to submitting application to attending online interview, every applicant has gone through a journey of growth and reflection. Finally, 12 secondary students and 5 current G5 students have won the 2020-21 academic year Yinghe Scholarship Award. We believe that these award winners will fulfill their responsibilities and become better self under the motivation of this honor, helping to build a more positive school and community culture!

STEM is one core element of the feature programs of Kaiwen education. We believe that in the future of both China and the world, science will bring forward key creation and development. For the 2020-21 academic year, we have decided to set up the STEM program that helps students who love and excel at science to transition to upper secondary school in a more prepared manner. Currently, we are receiving application and carrying out interview. This program will lay a solid foundation for students to enter IBDP course.

The primary science class will be a key development area for 2020-21 academic year. We have not only done clear alignment between CNC and Cambridge, but also made investment and renovation on resources and facilities. We are now making arrangement on the resources of the two primary science labs. Next Monday, the science center will be built, establishing the ICT lab that supports students in coding and programming class, and moving robotic center to the first floor of primary school.

In the optimized online course of secondary school, the make-up lectures in the afternoon make students excited. Based on subject themes but not limited to subject content, these specialist lectures have helped students to improve their thinking skills, learning strategies, and cognitive competence. Mr. Leale and I have also returned to the classroom, offering lectures to the secondary school. It is very exciting to interact with students on Zoom. In my experience of being principal, I have always been keeping the habit of teaching TOK of IBDP program. It is also IBO’s expectation for leaders and administrators to return to classrooms, understand students and practice education in a down-to-earth way.

This Wednesday, we have also shot graduation pictures for G12 graduates. This is the first time in the history of Kaiwen! Being dressed in the graduation gowns designed by themselves, our students sometimes show their elegance and sometimes demonstrate their vitality in the photographs. While we send our best wishes to the first batch of Kaiwen graduates who have successfully received numerous offers from world top arts universities, we are really touched by their dynamism and energy. Yes, education is a wonderful cause. Their future is promising!

We have been listening to the voice of our parents regarding fee refund, and we totally understand these appeals. This week, as the dates of school resuming for different grade levels are gradually confirmed, we will soon communicate with parents about the detailed arrangement of fee refund.

Education is a cause far beyond school education. Any changes in life can be an opportunity for family, school and students to study together. We believe that the epidemics may have disrupted the normal rhythm of the school and family, but have also taught us a lot, leading us to address issues in an unprecedented depth and width. Many thanks to life and experience!
