Launched on the 16th of August,

Kaiwen Happiness Class,

led by principal Christine Xu,

meets with our parents every Friday,

to talk with you about the details of life

and the blueprints for the future.

At the end of this semester and the year of the pig,

We would like to sincerely present to you again

the essence from the last 20 issues…

Be growth-minded parents

The influence of parents for a child lasts for a life. Young parents are no longer satisfied with accompanying children in their growth. They are committed to understanding their children, studying and growing together with them. Family and parent are the most important strategic partners of the school, because we share the same goal: dedicated to children’s growth and life-long happiness.

The wisdom in setting rules

Setting rules has been the headache for many parents. From traditional Chinese education that sets too many rules to simple imitation of the western education that gives children too much freedom, we’ve seen many parents who have made the line between rules and freedom ambiguous. In this issue, Christine will start with several common misunderstandings in setting rules and share with you the wisdom in setting rules.

Cultivating Adaptability

Adults always ask children to integrate into new environment instead of understanding their world. Many parents lack understanding and strategy in dealing with the repetitive performance of children facing changes. If these changes cannot be dealt with and adjusted properly, life may easily fall into a helpless and passive situation. In this issue, Christine will talk about the changes and challenges that international school students may meet and share effective strategies with you to support children.

Let children fall in love with reading

The hunger for reading is formed before 14 years old. Whether parents always tell stories to children before 5 years old largely influence their reading skills. The reading experience before 14 years old and the value they have experienced in reading will shape and impact a child’s growth. In this issue, principal Xu has prepared several tips for parents to let your children fall in love with reading.

Complimenting children is not an easy thing

Speaking of compliment, in the memory of many moms and dads, it is a thing that needs fighting for. In Chinese traditional culture, we advocate for strict discipline and high requirements. It seems that constant criticism is the way for progress. Today, many parents have changed their minds in complimenting children. Our kids get a lot of encouragement and compliment. But complimenting children in the right way may not be such an easy thing…

How to improve children’s thinking skills

There are a lot of different definition in terms of education. The best preparation for future is clearly no longer knowledge. We focus more on learning ability, collaboration ability, communication skills, thinking skills, innovation skills, and other soft skills. Among them, thinking skills is especially important.

How to help children to build up sense of responsibility

Responsibility is a spirit to be brave enough to undertake due obligations. When a kid has strong sense of responsibility, his self-discipline ability will increase as well. Although adults all understand the importance of responsibility to growth, in real life, there has been a lack of cultivation in the sense of responsibility in the upbringing of a child. Many adults tend to make decisions for kids when kids should shoulder responsibilities. How to build up children’s sense of responsibility? Please watch the video.

Mother Ms. Fu: the path to become a growth-minded parent

As the first chapter of parent-led happiness class, we are honored to invite Ms Fu, the former parent committee member and a mom of two Kaiwen students to talk about her path to become a growth-minded parent.

Teacher Ms. Zhang: Chinese education in Life

In a bilingual school, Chinese is still the mother tongue of Chinese children. The study of mother tongue is deeply related with root culture. We believe that without a clear identity recognition, children will not have a wide and promising future. Chinese is an essential subject to children. It does not only teach children knowledge, but also cultivate children’s aesthetic taste and moral values. In this issue, we are delighted to have Teacher Zhang, head of Chinese department, with us today to talk about Chinese education.

Mother Ms Chen: my experience in choosing the right school

How to choose the right international school for kids? This is the headache of many parents. We are honored to have Ms Chen with us today. She is the incumbent president of parent committee of CKWA, and a new parent to CKWA. She will share her experience in choosing the right school. She will also talk about her thinking in the relationship between family and the school, and help parents to better understand and cooperate with the teaching work of the school.

CKWA British style boarding does not only focus on the academic performance of children, but also care fore their routine social life.
