更好的陪伴孩子成长

升级后的住宿学院,将住宿提升为独立教育单元。由于孩子们离开日间学院后的学习生活,也需要一个群体环境。因此,学校设立了小班制的学院,确保每个住宿学院有一位住宿班主任,学生人数也控制在24人以内。


寄宿班主任是孩子们的大家长,住宿学院严格挑选中英文俱佳、教学与生活经验并重的老师作为寄宿班主任,这样的老师比较容易与孩子们建立积极、密切的关系,可以更好地陪伴、帮助他们成长。 


面对孩子的错误行为时,很多家长,也包括一些老师,倾向于痛点式地解决,而无法做到涓涓细流。”徐涛校长认为,这种做法是错误的,与孩子建立积极的、亲密的关系,是培养孩子内驱力的核心。


“50岁的宿管老师,怎么会理解孩子们玩游戏的事儿?”徐涛校长认为,宿管大爷和大妈对学生们往往是训话,很难与孩子启发式对话,他们缺乏平等视角,也没有相应的知识储备。


随着更高的师生配比,更有经验的班主任将与孩子建立起更加亲密的关系,逐步帮助孩子建立自信,帮助孩子解决生活、学习中遇到的各种问题,陪伴他们更好的成长。

个性化晚间自习

定制孩子的专属学术档案


Micky Lv同学是从6年级来到北京朝阳凯文学校开始寄宿生活的。谈到住宿学院,她说到:


“我们有专门的自习教室,有辅导老师在教室里主动来交流。我一般做完作业会看看书,或者预习新的学习内容,遇到不会的地方还可以找老师帮助讲解,梳理知识点,中英双语都可以提问,学习效率提高了不少。”


晚间自习是住宿学院体系的核心。虽只有两节课,但却浓缩了学校管理团队对学生定制化学习的支持:学校据住宿生日间的学习状况对住宿生进行差异化分层,一般跨度为两三个年级。


13岁的奥利来自美国,在朝阳凯文读7年级。他认为在朝阳凯文学校的住宿学院,每堂自习课都有全科老师来帮忙。在老师的带动下,大家对学习安排都有了合理的规划,而且学习起来也轻松了很多。


对此,徐涛校长坦言,寄宿学院为晚自习配备的其他老师也都是全科的双语辅导老师。每位老师都有能力对学生复习的内容给予指导,也能与孩子进行高密度、高质量的交流沟通,确保学校的教育理念能很好的贯彻执行。


每隔两周,全科辅导老师会召开专业会议,讨论每位学生的特点,如何有针对性地鼓励学生。“对有的学生,要鼓励他能把作业完成,先不求质量;对于作业完成较好的学生,则要教会他预习,适度挑战自我”,徐校长说,“全科教师参与的晚自习,旨在加强学生管理时间、自我学习的能力,培养学生对学业的热爱和追求。授人以鱼不如授人以渔,住宿学院的晚自习目标在于激励学生,让学生学会自我成长”

丰富的增益活动

激发孩子走出舒适圈,挑战自我


8年级的Micky Lv同学说,进入学校的住宿学院之后,下午5点-6点增加了一小时的运动时间。“开始很多同学都很抗拒,不是找理由不参加就是想办法拖延时间。但老师监督着进行了一段时间后,我们发现其实还挺好的。大家每天按时聚在一起做喜欢的运动,不仅增加了大家畅快沟通交流的时间,还可以带走一天学习累积下的疲劳,放松放松”,Micky Lv全程笑容满面地诉说着自己在校生活的感受。


朝阳凯文学校住宿学院的运动时间,初衷是为了帮助同学们健康体魄,丰富校园生活。随着住宿项目的升级,为了让同学们参与到更多彩的活动中,走出舒适圈,挑战自我,感觉到学校的温暖,学校在征求学生意见后调整了活动的内容:从最初的散步,体能训练派生出了很多其他备选项:羽毛球、篮球、板球、瑜伽……

 

国际主任Paul介绍,随着住宿学院制度的完善和深化,他打算根据学生的需求,推出更多活动,包括每月为孩子举办生日晚宴、寄宿学院之间的集体活动等。前者给孩子们以放松,后者更强调培养孩子提升在集体中的能力

激发孩子的内驱力



一位哲学家路过一个建筑工地,看见三个正挥汗如雨的建筑工人,便停下来问道:“你们在干什么?”第一个工人头也不抬地说:“我在砌砖。”第二个工人说:“先生,我正在砌一堵墙。”第三个工人满怀憧憬地说:“我正在建造美丽的教堂!

 

“好的教育,就是让孩子看见宫殿,赋予每一块砖以意义。让孩子为自己的梦想而努力,未来可期。”徐校长强调,住宿学院的宗旨,是在一个更广大的教育生态中,激发孩子的内驱力“在我们以往的教育中,干部是要被挑选的,是老师的小间谍,执行老师的命令。但我们的住宿项目中,我们改变了孩子对领导力的认知。干部不是帮老师干事儿,而是帮助关心自己身边的人”。为此,为了提升孩子们关心集体、帮助他人的能力,住宿学院设有4个委员会,有寄宿班长、奖励委员、活动委员、晚间学术助教 


  • 寄宿班长:要做20个人的小班级的班长,帮助寄宿班主任管理寄宿学院的日常事务;
  • 奖励委员:决定如何使用给孩子们的奖励预算,决定将奖励发放给谁;
  • 活动委员:组织活动的,比如增益课程的一个小时要采取什么活动,丰富住宿生活,增强集体荣誉感;
  • 晚间学术助教:在全科教师的指导下帮助同学提升学习能力。


我们特别鼓励中学生参与集体决定,而不是让决定都来自成年人。”校长徐涛说,“这种练习的过程,有助于培育孩子的内驱力。学习无处不在,不只在课本里、在教室里,激发内驱力的过程,需要一个更广阔的教育场,营造更大范围的教育生态。朝阳凯文学校住宿学院要做的,就是激发孩子的内驱力,使他们成为更棒的学习者,更棒的自己。

Personalized evening-study support, customized students’ progressplan

 

The two-periods evening-study is the core element of theboarding school system.


From April 6 this year, CKWA upgraded the BoardingSchool, made it improved as an independent education unit. Dormitory is nolonger just a teaching subsidiary part to meet the requirements of safety andcomfort. Besides 8 hours of teaching time, boarding time has become an equallyimportant part of education ecology as day education.


In this regard, Principal Xu Tao said frankly that the school had planned for more than half a year before officially launching the boarding programme. After investigation, it is found that children’s after-school life also needs a group environment.


Therefore, the school set up small class units with nomore than 24 students. The boarding supervisor is the big parent in this unit.Both the supervisors and the evening-study teachers can provide bilingual tutoringand good communication, so as to ensure that the school’s educational philosophy can be well implemented.


Different from the separate day-class and evening-class teaching teams in other schools, we ensure the academic team of evening programme have close communication with day-class teachers for a basic understanding of students’ learning and growth, which helps personalized tutoring. Principal Xu Tao believes that education must be happening in anecology, and providing boarders a kind of family atmosphere is very important.


For the evening programme, we group students of differentlevels according to the learning status at day school, English and academic levels are mainly considered, generally a group covering two or three grades.


Principal Xu said that every two weeks, the evening academic team will have a professional meeting to exchange opinions andexperience. For some students, we basically supervise them finish homework atthe beginning stage. For students whose homework is not a big problem, we should guide them to preview and have challenging tasks. We are also different fromschools with military management aiming for college entrance examinationresults, we motivate students’ enthusiasm. The purpose of our evening programis to strengthen students’ ability of time management and self-learning. It’sbetter to teach children how to self-study than to give them knowledge. Theinner drive is what we aim to cultivate.


Build students’ confidence with kindness and respect

 

It has a prominent position in CKWA educational missionto establish a sense of rules for children. If a student makes a mistake or breaksthe regulations, he or she is supposed to accept the consequence according tothe school policies. “Consequence education” is an important part of CKWAboarding school system.

 

“When facing bad-disciplined children, many parents,including some teachers, tend to just simply solve the problem, instead of guiding and motivating them to realize the mistakes.” Princiapl Xu Tao believes that establishing a positive and intimate relationship with childrenis the core method of cultivating children’s inner drive.

 

For CKWA boarding school programme, we strictly select teachers who are qualified at both Chinese and English with rich teaching andlife experience as boarding supervisors, considering they are easier to establish a positive and close relationship with our boarders and give better accompany as children grow up.

 


Break the comfort zone and challenge yourself in variousactivities


At first, the exercise time of boarding students was arranged by teachers to do some simple sports. After running for a period, students came up with many brilliant ideas. The school respected students’opinions and made some adjustments. Many other options were derived from theinitial exercise: badminton, basketball, cricket, yoga, etc.

 

Paul said that the boarding programme is an importantpart of the school. As the International boarding supervisor, his responsibilities are more about behavior management, that is, correcting children’s behavior problems and communicating with their parents timely. Withthe improvement of CKWA boarding school system, what he most hopes to developis the Enrichment Programme. He plans to launch more activities according tothe needs of students, including monthly birthday dinner, which brings children relaxation, and the happy rivalry between houses, which emphasizes collaboration of a team.

 

The school set grade 3 as the minimum grade for boarding program. Principal Xu Tao believes that for younger children, parent-child relationship is the first place, and they need more family company. Everyone has an instinct for pursuing comfort, so it always needs someone to push asmall step forward. When children see the progress brought out by efforts, they will gradually form the consciousness of making efforts, the habit of puttingefforts, and they will be more confident in facing difficulties.

 


Cultivate children’s leadership and stimulate their inter drive in a community


“A good education is to let children see the palace and give meaning to each brick. Motivate children work hard for their dreams, then their future ispromising”, stressed Principal Xu Tao. The purpose of the boarding school is to stimulate children’s interdrive in a broader education ecology. “In our traditional education, student leaderswere to be selected. They were the little spies of teachers and carried out teacher’sorders. We changed children’s perception of leadership. Students leaders arenot for helping teachers, but to care about people around them”.  In order to improve children’s ability tocare for and help others, four committees were set up, including House Captain,Awards Committee, Events Committee, and Teacher assistant for the eveningprogramme.

 

“We encourage young teenagers to participate incollective decision-making, instead of adults deciding everything.  Through this practice, children’s inner drive will be developed. Learning is everywhere, not only limited to textbooks and classrooms, but also in the process of stimulating inter drive in a broader education field and a wider educational ecology. ” said Principal Xu Tao. Whatthe Boarding Programme in CKWA aims to do is to stimulate children’s innerdrive and make them become better learners and better themselves.
